Commissioner Valeche Hosts Dedication of Fullerton Island

Body

On June 8th, District 1 Commissioner Hal Valeche hosted the dedication of Fullerton Island that lies in the Intracoastal Waterway in the Town of Jupiter. During the opening ceremony, Commissioner Valeche stated that restoring the 12-acre island will preserve upland hardwood hammock, seagrass, and mangrove habitat which serve as a refuge for fish, birds, and other estuarine organisms. In addition, the public-use amenities will allow recreational opportunities such as paddling, picknicking, and wildlife viewing. Over 50 attendees were delighted to see a manatee swimming through the island's interior channels, a clear indication of the importance of habitat preservation.
