Since 1972, the Loxahatchee River Historical Society has worked to restore and preserve structures and landmarks to share with the public the history of Jupiter, Tequesta, and the Loxahatchee River region, from the first Indigenous Peoples to the present day.  The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, operated by the Society, provides exhibits, tours, and programs to over 100,000 visitors, school children, and residents annually.

The Society has been an integral partner in the restoration and preservation of the historic 1860 Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, 1892 Tindall House, 1898 DuBois House, and WWII Navy Quarters.  They also successfully championed Congressional designation of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area in 2008 to protect the property under the authority of the Bureau of Land Management.

At a recent ceremony honoring the 50th anniversary, Commissioner Marino presented to Society President and CEO, Jamie Stuve, a proclamation from the Board of County Commissioners.  The event drew notables including long-time Tequesta resident and former NFL Quarterback for the New York Jets, Joe Namath, a supporter of the Society.
