On March 2, Vice Mayor Hal R. Valeche hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand reopening of the Historic DuBois Pioneer Home, located in DuBois Park at the Jupiter Inlet.

This local treasure is the original homestead built by Harry and Susan DuBois in 1898. It was closed to the public in 2008 to undergo repairs from damage sustained during the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005.  Now fully restored, the landmark contains period furnishings and original pieces.

Commissioner Valeche shared with the more than 150 guests in attendance, historical facts about the home and how it was restored through the efforts of the Loxahatchee Guild, the Loxahatchee River Historical Society, and the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department.

The Historic DuBois Pioneer Home, which is built on an ancient Native American shell midden and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, offers complimentary docent-led tours that detail the lifestyles, industry, and challenges of this prominent pioneer family.
