Commissioner Valeche was joined by Town of Jupiter officials, Parks & Recreation staff and the public at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of improvements to Riverbend/Loxahatchee Battlefield Park.

The park, which opened in 2005 is enjoyed for its miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails, internal blueways and 130 species of birds.  It is also the site of two Seminole War battles fought in 1838 and where archaeologists have discovered evidence of Archaic peoples, Seminole Indians and pioneer families who lived on the land.

The completed $3.1 million project includes a 4,500 square foot building with ADA public restrooms and staff offices, a reconfiguration of the entrance and paved parking spaces, a plaza/overlook for the adjacent Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park, a new restroom on the picnic island, and underground water and sewer utilities .

Project partners include the South Florida Water Management District, the Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Greenways and Trails, Florida Communities Trust, Save Our Rivers, Loxahatchee River Battlefield Preservationists, National Park Service, Florida Trail, NETA and Gated Trail Riders.
