At the September 26th meeting of the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners (BCC), a resolution providing for the waiver of permit fees and expedited review fees, as set forth in Palm Beach County Code, was passed and put into effect immediately. In accordance with Florida Governor's Executive Order 17-235, the BCC of Palm Beach County is empowered to take appropriate actions to protect county citizens and to facilitate recovery efforts from the negative effects of Hurricane Irma. This resolution will authorize the Building Division to expedite reviews and issue permits to begin recovery and repair without charging any fees for these services.

During the meeting Mayor Paulette Burdick voiced her approval of the resolution; "It is great when private businesses come before a government and acknowledge the good work on how expeditiously government can operate so it benefits everybody".

Vice Mayor Melissa McKinlay added; "This is an excellent example of local government done right…this is tremendous".

The total initial estimates of damage to properties in Unincorporated Palm Beach County totals over one hundred million dollars. At this time, staff is unable to determine the associated fiscal impact, but upon expiration of this resolution, a summary of the waived fees will be provided.
