Chief Wells began his Fire Rescue career in 1980 with the West Palm Beach Fire Department. In 1981, Chief
Wells moved to the Lake Park Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief in 1992.
During his tenure as Fire Chief, he initiated the upgrading of the department's level of service from Basic
Life Support to Advanced Life Support transport service while increasing department staffing and providing
ALS transport to a neighboring community. In 2002, Lake Park Fire Rescue was mergered into Palm Beach County
Fire Rescue, where Chief Wells has held the rank of Battalion Chief. He currently is assigned to Battalion 4
since February 2006 after serving in Battalion 9. He is also the Volunteer Battalion Liaison. Chief Wells
has an AA degree from PBCC while working toward his Bacholars and holds several state certifications
including Fire Officer 1.

Battalion Chief Nigel Baker was hired with Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue in
1987, Class #7. He has been involved in Emergency Services in Palm Beach County
for the past 22 years, 20 of which have been with Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue.
He has a degree in Emergency Medical Services Management and another in Fire
Science Technology. He has been a participant in the United States Fire
Administration's four year Executive Fire Officer Program and is also a Florida
State-certified Paramedic, Fire Instructor, Fire Safety Inspector, and a Hazardous
Materials Technician. Chief Baker is a Command Staff member on the Florida Division
of Forestry Incident Management Blue Team. He has served as the Department's Public
Information Officer (PIO) and Battalion Chief of the Communications Center from
1996-2001. Transferred to Battalion Chief of Battalion 4 in 2001-2005, then
transferred to Battalion Chief of Battalion 2 in 2005 to present.

Hired in 1983 with Reservation Fire Department, one of the County's
original Fire Districts. After consolidation in 1984, when Palm Beach
County Fire Rescue was created, became Union President from 1986 - 1996.
In 1993 became a member of the Standards and Training Council, State of
Florida. Was the Chairman of the Standards and Training Council from
1994 - 1996. In 1996 through 1997, was an Executive Assistant in the
Human Resources Division. Promoted to Battalion Chief and became involved
in Labor relations in July of 1997. Became the Battalion Chief of the
Training & Safety Division from 1999 - 2001. Moved to Battalion
Chief of Battalion 5 in 2001 then transferred to Battalion Chief of
Battalion 3 in 2003 to present.

Chief Hernandez began his career in 1979 as a Firefighter/Paramedic for the Del-Trail
Fire Department which became part of the later consolidated Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue
Department. He served as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Lieutenant, and Paramedic Lieutenant
prior to consolidation. He was one of the District Chief's initially responsible for
the establishment of the newly formed recruit academy and oversaw all EMS related
training for both recruit and incumbent personnel. Throughout his career he has been
involved with several aspects of training, having taught at the South Technical Educational
School for nearly 10 years. He continues to teach part-time at Palm Beach Community
College. His career took him from the Training Division to EMS, where he oversaw
EMS operations in battalions 2, 3, 4, and 5 at different intervals throughout his
career, and eventually along with two other District Chiefs oversaw EMS operations for
the entire department while assigned to 24 hour shift. After his stint within the EMS
division he returned to operations as an Operational District Chief in battalion 4.
Three years later he was promoted to Battalion Chief in 1994 and oversaw the Airport
Battalion for nearly 10 years. While there, he again returned to his training roots
overseeing the re-vamping of the EMS, Fire and FAA training programs there, incorporating
modern day technologies into the classroom arena. During his tenure at Palm Beach
International Airport he was responsible for the establishment and execution of a
major, multi-million dollar, 5-year Capital Improvement Plan for both the Aircraft
Rescue Firefighting fleet and the facility. In 2003, he was reassigned to Battalion
5 where he remains today. He has a degree in Fire Science Administration and is a
graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program class of 1996.
He is a certified Paramedic, Fire Instructor, and Fire Inspector.

Battalion Chief Michael Arena has served Palm Beach County for over 20 years
and was a graduate of PBCFR 5th recruit class. He is a graduate of The United
States Fire Administration's four year Executive Fire Officer Program and has
an A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Services. Chief Arena is a state of Florida
Paramedic, Fire Instructor and Fire Safety Inspector. Additionally he has served
in the US Armed services reserve with The United States Coast Guard and
recently retired as a Lieutenant. He has also served as Battalion Chief of
Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting at PBIA for three years and is presently
the Battalion Chief of Battalion 7 in the Glades.

Chief Horowitz joined the fire service in 1978, with Del-Trail Fire Control District #9 as
a firefighter/paramedic after being Paramedic certified in 1975. Promoted thru the ranks
and currently at Palm Beach International Airport as the Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF)
Battalion Chief. Certified Aircraft Rescue Firefighter in accordance with Federal Aviation
Regulation Part 139. Chief Horowitz earned a degree in Business Administration and is a
1995 Graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program. Certified as a
State of Florida Firefighter, Paramedic, Municipal Fire Inspector, Fire Standards Instructor
and Lead Instructor for EMS program at Palm Beach Community College. He has been an American
Heart Association Provider and Instructor for CPR, ACLS and PALS. He has attended numerous
National Fire Academy programs in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Attended Incident Command and
Control programs through the State of Florida and Department of Homeland Security. Also
attended ARFF Chief’s leadership programs, ARFF tactics and strategy programs delivered
by the ARFF working group association and Association of Airport Executives. His
achievements include Palm Beach County Call of the Year Award,Distinguished EMS Service
Award, Palm Beach County EMS Office and EMS Provider Association.

Battalion Chief Mark Anderson was hired by Del-Trail Fire District in January 1979. In 1984
Del-Trail was merged with other fire districts to form Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. He is a
state-certified Paramedic, Fire Service Instructor II, Fire Safety Inspector, Hazardous Materials
Technician, and has an Associate's Degree in Fire Sciences. Chief Anderson is a member of FEMA
Urban Search and Rescue Team, Florida Task Force II. He has worked as a Firefighter/EMT, Paramedic,
Driver/Operator, Company Officer, and District Chief, before assignment as the Battalion Chief for
Battalion 9 and Special Operations in April 2006.

Chief Rattey joined the Volunteers in 1997 and has served as the Battalion Chief since
2004. In his civilian life he is presently a commercial helicopter pilot and instructor.
After graduating college in 1980 he worked for over 20 years in the computer industry
for several major corporations. During this time he also served in the military as a
telecommunications officer in both reserve and active duty posts. He retired from the
military as a Captain.His present role is to enhance the capabilities and equipment of
the volunteer battalion to best serve the needs of the career firefighters and the citizens
of Palm Beach County.
