What is the Community Assistance Team?
The Community Assistance Team is a group of dedicated volunteers who provide
emotional support, referral to social service agencies, and other advocacy work
on behalf of the citizens of Palm Beach County. The CAT responds from fire
stations throughout Palm Beach County and works closely with Palm Beach County
Firefighters and Paramedics, the Sheriff's Office and local social service
organizations.
Why are the Community Assistance Team (CAT) Volunteers so
important?
Volunteers for the CAT are a very important part of Palm Beach County
Fire-Rescue. The volunteers respond to a variety of needs within our community.
They are dispatched by the Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue Communications Center
and respond to many different types of calls, including:
- Providing grief support, information and referrals in adult and pediatric
death situations
- Aiding families displaced by fires
- Checking on welfare of individuals
- Assisting families in need with accessing social service programs
- Responding with other county agencies in the event of a disaster
How do I become involved?
Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue is continually seeking volunteers for the CAT.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Florida driver's
license. Prospective volunteers must pass a background check, interview process
and complete 40 hours of training.If you would like to become a member of the
