Volunteer Events

First Volunteer Event
What: Planting endangered native plants (4-petal pawpaw)
Where: Jupiter Inlet Natural Area - Jupiter
When: Wednesday, December 3, 2008
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Indiantown Rd. – head east on Indiantown Rd. to U.S. Highway 1 – turn left and head north on U.S. Highway 1 to Beach Rd (707) – turn right on Beach Rd. and park in Lighthouse Park – volunteers will then head east on Beach Rd. for roughly 1/8 mile to natural area entrance which is located on the north side of Beach Rd. – look for white County trucks at Lighthouse Park to find the designated meeting area for all volunteers.

Volunteers should wear long pants, t-shirts, boots or sneakers. Restroom facilities are available at Lighthouse Park. We will be working in brush-filled areas so volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes. Since we will be working through lunch I will provide a more “hearty” snack to volunteers.

Second Volunteer Event
What: Planting sawgrass in a wetland restoration area
Where: Juno Dunes Natural Area – Juno Beach
When: Friday, December 12, 2008
Time: 9:00 a.m. to noon
Directions: From I-95 exit at Donald Ross Road – head east on Donald Ross Road to Ellison Wilson Road – turn right and head south on Ellison Wilson Road to Bert Winters Park (13425 Ellison Wilson Road) – the park is located on the west side of Ellison Wilson Road – enter the park and look for white County trucks to indicate the volunteer meeting area – this will be in the parking area closest to Ellison Wilson Road – volunteers will be loaded into the County vehicles and transported to the planting area inside Juno Dunes Natural Area.

Volunteers should wear long pants, t-shirts, boots or sneakers. Restroom facilities are available at Bert Winters Park. We will be working in a wetland area so volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes that they do not mind getting wet and/or muddy.

Third Volunteer Event
What: Planting native vegetation (sawgrass), Trash removal
Where: Yamato Scrub Natural Area – Boca Raton
When: Saturday, December 20, 2008 
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Directions: From I-95 exit at Congress Ave. - head south on Congress Ave. to Clint Moore Road - turn left and head east on Clint Moore Road for roughly 1/2 mile - the natural area entrance is located on the north side of Clint Moore Road - volunteers will need to make a U-turn on Clint Moore Road (at the Boca Raton Shrine Club) to access the natural area parking lot - we will meet everyone in the parking lot and then proceed to the project work area.

Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes as we will be working around a wetland area. Some of the planting areas may be wet and muddy. Hats and sunscreen are recommended as we will be working in an open area with little to no shade. Restroom facilities (port-a-lets) are available in the parking lot. The Department will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers. Event participation will be limited to the first 30 volunteers who register.
